Luther B. Townsend

Luther B. Townsend was born and raised in Poughkeepsie, New York. He joined the Navy after completing high school, serving from 1967 to 1974. During this time, he was stationed in various locations such as Naples, Italy, the Bahamas, and Virginia Beach. Upon his honorable discharge in 1974, he joined the Peace Corps and worked various jobs in Paraguay. After returning, he pursued higher education at Dutchess Community College, earning an associate’s degree. Subsequently, he graduated from Oswego State University in 1980 with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts Education. He met his future wife, Carol, from Clarence during his time there and they married in 1984. Before returning to the WNY area in 1990, Luther taught Industrial Arts for nine years in Texas. While Carol and their young son, Benjamin, returned to Buffalo to be closer to family, Luther continued to teach Industrial Arts/Technology Education in the Alden School District until his retirement.
