Theodore G. Sturgis
Ted, a native of Buffalo, New York, attended East High School before earning his bachelor’s degree from Buffalo State in 1953, followed by a master’s degree in Education from the University of Buffalo. While pursuing his studies, he also worked as a classroom teacher in the Clarence Central School District.
Ted served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957, stationed in Tokyo, Japan, before returning to Clarence to continue teaching. He remained in the Army Reserve until 1963.
After completing his Doctorate from Syracuse University, Ted served as Superintendent in several school districts, including Liverpool Central Schools, Sweet Home Central Schools, Ithaca City Schools, and Wappingers Central Schools.
Following his retirement, Ted remained active in civic affairs and was honored with several awards for his community leadership, including a proclamation of Theodore G. “Ted” Sturgis Day in Duchess County on April 23, 1995. Notably, he received the Meritorious Service Award for outstanding community leadership in the mid-Hudson region.
In recognition of his achievements, Ted was selected to receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award from both Buffalo State College in 2005 and East High School in 2006.
